Duke of Edinburgh's Award
We're proud to be a Silver Partner supporting the leading youth charity
Our support means more young people from all backgrounds are getting the chance to do their DofE, developing their skills for life and work.
With more than a million young people out of work right now, the DofE has never been more relevant. Employers tell us that they look for young people who have a Duke of Edinburgh Award when they recruit, so we're pleased that our support can help give a positively different experience to those at the very start of their careers.
Duke of Edinburgh in business
Duke of Edinburgh Business is a proven 18 month programme developing skills, confidence, prospects and employer loyalty. The programme engages young staff and fosters their long-term career within your business. It can be used to recognise potential and talent, and identify future leaders. The programme is flexible – activities can be adapted to fit with the aims and objectives of your business.
British Gas Case Study
Over the last five years British Gas has worked with the Duke of Edinburgh to incorporate the Gold Duke of Edinburgh into its award-winning apprenticeship with a focus on developing teamwork, communications skills, leadership and dedication in its young workforce. All young British Gas apprentices spend 18 months working towards their Gold Duke of Edinburgh whilst completing their NVQ3. In 2011 the Duke of Edinburgh was incorporated into a new IT Apprenticeship at British Gas to ensure the all-round development of individuals.
"Our partnership with the Duke of Edinburgh fits perfectly with our company values and our social responsibility agenda. Through our partnership, our employees make an invaluable contribution to our local communities whilst developing all those skills that we treasure and foster in our workforce."
Angela Williams, HR Director at British Gas and Silver DofE Award holder
In a recent survey of British Gas apprentices, 89% would recommend the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award to other colleagues and future apprentices; 71% believe that they have been able to transfer the skills gained within the workplace, 85% feel more positive about working for British Gas after completing their Duke of Edinburgh.
