Leisure - Building a New Team

We worked with a charitable social enterprise that runs over 100 sports & leisure facilities across London. After a period of considerable growth they were looking to recruit 7 new permanant marketers to their team. They had tried advertising direct, but without success. Following a pitch, Stopgap were brought on board with a brief to fill the roles fast.

What did we do to fill the brief?

We assigned a team to work on the roles, feeding everything back through a single point so that the client didn't need to worry about who was handling each role. We met the client at their ofices and got under the skin of their briefs, their location and their culture, and subsequently and quickly embarked upon a marketing campaign:

  • bespoke website landing page about the company and the opportunities.
  • advertised on the Stopgap website, Brand Republic and Simply Marketing Jobs.
  • specialist email to our databases of candidates.
  • features on LinkedIn, twitter and our Stopgap blog.

We searched our extensive database across all relevant sectors, on both Agency and Clientside, as well as looking externally at passive candidates via LinkedIn


Based in Woolwich, the location of the roles wasn't the most appealing nor accessible. In addition whilst the opportunity to join a growing team was a great one, this wasn't a 'destination' brand, nor was it instantly recognisable. Given the recruitment need was urgent this wasn't our easiest assignment.

what was the result?

We managed to quickly fill 5 of the 7 roles, using our extensive database and rapid search facility to identify a number of candidates for the roles. We quickly re-established contact with the candidates and ensured their interest, before presenting to the client. (The other 2 roles were filled by the client themselves directly.)

Our relationship with the client was enhanced, and we have subsequently become a trusted partner for their Marketing recruitment needs.

We were able to provide candidates with a complete view of the company, from role spec to the culture of their business, which made for a much more efficient client process.
